I bought this system to replace my Samsung system, which I found to be underpowered for my living room. The Sony system is more powerful and provides plenty of sound, even for loud action movies.
This system has excellent sound quality, plenty of power, is very easy to use, and was very inexpensive. continued
As for features, it is a good, basic system and doesn't have all the features of a more sophisticated system. For example, it doesn't have a whole lot of inputs for extra components or an audio line output for dubbing audio. But to compensate, you can just run all of your inputs through the TV and pipe the audio from the TV into the 1 audio input on the Sony. This way, you can listen to all components (e.g. cable TV, VCR, gaming system) through the Sonysystem.
Other than that, it's a terrific system for the money.

Stereo Home theater systems are all about surround sound and the way that your audio system interacts with your TV and DVD player to create a realistic cinema environment. A surround sound system separates the audio from your favorite movies and TV shows into several different signals, each sent to a separate speaker.
A typical system has one speaker positioned directly above the TV, another two on either side of the TV, two more behind the viewer, and a separate subwoofer to really get things shaking. More advanced systems add another speaker directly behind the viewer or a pair of speakers to each side. The viewer is literally engulfed in sound—from gut-shaking explosions to arrows whistling past your head, you’ll feel just like you’re at the local multiplex.

In addition, the previous reviewer said that he bought this system 6 months ago and had trouble with it, but I don't think this system was even available until just recently. I called Sony directly, and this system was so new that Sony didn't even have info on this system yet. Maybe he was thinking of Sony's Stereo Home Theatre System, (previous) the BC-150.
